real-life winterland castle
Sub zero temperatures have hit Lake Michigan causing a lighthouse to have the effect of a fairy tale castle. As Polar Vortex-esque weather pushed the mercury down to between -5F and -15F on Friday, the Great Lakes Drone Company posted footage of the ice-laden structure on the lake’s southwest shores. The lighthouse is now covered in a thin sheet of snow and ice giving the lighthouse a seemingly encahnted look.

The cause of the polar bear decline
During fall in Kaktovik, Alaska polar bears are everywhere and bring tourists from all around the world. To your average person, these bears might not seem like members of a species facing possible extinction.
Scientists have counted up to 80 at a time in or near Kaktovik; many look healthy, especially during fall, when their presence overlaps with the Inupiat village’s whaling season. The problem is the bears that come here are only on land because the sea ice they rely on for hunting seals is declining.
“The Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet, and the ice cover is retreating at a pace that even the climate scientists who predicted the decline find startling.” According to the New York Times.
The continuing loss of sea ice does not look well for polar bears, whose existence depends on an ice cover that is rapidly melting as the climate warms.

Fill them Gaps
Why spend hundreds of dollars on getting braces and trying to fix your embarrassing gaps and getting those awful retainers that you have to clean all the time and take out when you eat, when you can get a mold.
This new mold orthodontists are using is a mold with this white paste placed into. The mold is then placed onto your teeth and left for a certain amount of time. Once the mold is finished you peel it off and the white mold replaces your gaps leaving your smile better than ever.

Phelan the Horned Human
Phelan MoonSong doesn’t see any problem with wearing horns on his head.
But the state of Maine had some problems with it and told MoonSong, who is a pagan priest, that the horns would have to go for the official photo on his state identification card.
The retired tech employee politely explained his religion, and he was given an envelope addressed to the secretary of state, and told to appeal the decision and explain his beliefs, he said.
Which he dutifully did in the middle of August.
Last month, he picked up the phone and called the secretary’s office, only to be told his appeal had been rejected.
He really needed that ID. So he recently changed his name to reflect his paganism, which was why he was applying for a new ID card, and having his photo taken.
Despite being turned down, he didn’t give up. He contacted the Maine Civil Liberties Union. He went back to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and again asked for his photo to be taken. This time, the clerk took his picture and sent him on his way. His new card arrived last week. He’s not sure why his last visit to the BMV went fine. He’s just glad to have a government-issued photo ID.

Brazilian jet runs out of fuel
Brazilian soccer team was on their way to a competition in Colombia when their pilot pleaded to make an immediate landing because the aircraft was out of fuel, according to a recording leaked to Colombian news outlets on Wednesday.
The audio, first posted by W Radio of Colombia, offers a narration of the final moments of the doomed flight, which carried 77 people, including the members of the Chapecoense soccer team from Chapecó, Brazil. Investigators are now trying to figure out if the plane actually did run out of fuel or if something else may have taken place.
The theory that the plane crashed without fuel was supported by rescue workers on the ground on Tuesday, who were surprised to see that there had been no explosion.

Taco Madness
Austin Texas seems to be the most taco crazy town in the USA. Overflowing metaphorically with meat, cheese, tortillas, and guacamole.
From restaurants to trucks and even backyards, tacos seem to be lurking over everybody's shoulders.
One taco out of them all rules over every taco possibility and that is the breakfast taco. Austinites will eat breakfast tacos 24/7.

the simpsons has been predicting the future
1. Grease theft
One 1998 episode centred around Homer and Bart’s racket reselling of cooking oil – a crime that may seem weird to most people, but was reported as becoming a real life crime around 10 years later.
2. Tigers fighting back
In 1993, they featured magicians Siegfried and Roy in a set-piece that saw them attacked by their co-star tiger, only for it to actually happen in 2003.
3. Rigged voting machines
Their 2008 episode about rigged voting machines counted votes for the Republican party even when citizens chose Obama seemed dead-on when several people complained about the exact same problem in the 2012 election.
4. President Trump
Back in 2000, The Simpsons writers predicted Donald Trump would become president. The episode, ‘Bart To The Future’, describes the futures of Bart and Lisa Simpson. Lisa is shown with an uncanny resemblance to Hillary Clinton and becomes the first female president of the United States. In this episode Lisa even says “As you know, we’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump,”

Trouble in Paradise
On Mon. Nov. 28, Gatlinburg, Tennessee had a terrifying tragedy that still continues to damage the town. A huge fire burned through the town ruining many people’s home.
According to CNN news severe drought and hurricane force wind gust combined to fuel a “perfect storm”. Three people died in the wildfire that ended up scorching 15,000 acres of land and destroyed over 250 buildings near eastern resort towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
I would like to send prayers and luck to all of the families who lost homes, close items, a family member, or just affected by the tragedy.

What to know about the Tensing trial
A popular topic this past week has been the trial of Ray Tensing, a former UC police officer who was involved in the death of Sam Dubose during a traffic stop in June of 2015. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this case, most surrounding the question of whether it was murder or self defense. Tensing of course claimed that Dubose had attempted to pull away in his car, but this is not certain, as it was contradicted by another eye witness. The trial was highly anticipated, and began on October 25th and ended two weeks later with a hung jury. The Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters is now deciding whether or not Tensing will be tried again for murder. He says he’ll try to reach his decision by November 25th.
A Super sight in the sky
Some people may have noticed something odd about our favorite space neighbor for the past couple of nights. The moon has appeared to be larger and brighter in the sky. Why? It’s a supermoon, which is when the moon is near its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit. Basically, the earth and sun are aligned and the moon is very close to the earth. This supermoon is the closest moon to the earth since 1948, and will have no competition until the year 2034. So go outside at night and appreciate this beautiful phenomenon while it lasts.
Fun Fact: This years super moon has been dubbed "the Beaver Moon" because it occurred during the same period in which settlers would trap beavers just before the winter.

Uggly ways to kill animals
In fashion, people tend to lean towards shoes such as Vans, UGGs, Converse, Nike, Adidas and so many more that it’s hard to count. However, some of these brands, prominently Uggs, are constantly bashed on for killing or harming animals severely when it comes to how they’re made. Most kids who invest in such expensive shoes, question what actually happens to the fur, leather and suede that make their shoes.
If you check out www.ugg.com/animal-welfare-faq.html you will see that the famous brand UGG claims to only use sheepskin to produce their shoes and the sheepskin is used for other things such as apparel, upholstry and accessories. Of course the website will claim one thing, but do cameras claim another?
“Ugg boots are typically made from sheepskin with attached fleece (rather than wool attached to a synthetic base), a raw material derived from sheep that have been killed and skinned rather than simply sheared of their coats” says David Mikkelson, write of blog, The Uggly Truth.
Sheeps are killed to create these boots and the same people who wear UGG boots are typically the ones to say, “I could never wear makeup that harms animals or test on animals”, yet they wear UGG boots that kill and harm innocent sheep. Of course I found a couple of makeup brands such as Covergirl, Avon, Pantene and Maybelline on the website www.peta.org, which is a non-profit organization against any and all animal abuse. They also list products and companies that are abusive to animals and test on them so that others are aware to not use them and give them money for their abusive products.
To sum everything up, in order to help animals and protect them, people need to stop purchasing UGG boots and other products like makeup and hair products that test on and kill animals.

The Mannequin Challenge
You may have heard or seen it all around on various social medias, but the “Mannequin Challenge” seems to be a new thing. According to the challenge, a group of people get together and act out various poses or scenes while remaining absolutely still. Lately many sports teams have been cooperating in this online sensation and have put their own take on it. Also, the videos are set to a song “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremmurd. The challenge seems to be innocent, creative, goofy, and fun but as all things on social media it could get out of hand. Let's hope this only inspires people and does not destroy.
Selfies are wreaking Havoc
A Brazilian tourist caused irreparable damage to a statue after knocking it off its post while trying to take a selfie at a museum in Lisbon, Portugal. The incident occurred at the National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon.
The man fell backwards while trying to take the photo and knocked the sculpture of Saint Michael off its pedestal. Jose Alberto Seabra Carvalho, a deputy director of the National Museum of Ancient Art, told local media: "I've been working in the museum for many years and cannot recall anything similar happening." It’s amazing how much selfies have caused such things go down.
What people will do to get the right lighting is disturbing. Then again, you’ve probably done the same.

Caring about Candy
By Hannah Berling
[email protected]
October is over and some kids might still have their Halloween candy. If so, they’re not only enjoying the sweet, sugar-filled treat but they’re also celebrating National Candy Day without knowing it.
The day this annual occasion occurs is Nov. 4. Throughout the years candies have been seen in so many colors, sizes, shapes and varieties with a long history in popular culture.
Before the use of sugar in candy, honey was the ingredient to sweeten up the treat. Coating fruits and flowers or creating forms of candy were how honey was used. Today not much candy is seen made like this, but typically it’s seen as a garnishment.
People of all ages today enjoy candy as a treat to fill their sweet tooth with all the sugar it craves, but it wasn’t always like that. Candy was originally a form of medicine that calmed the digestive system and cooled sore throats.
It is believed candy came to America from Britain and France in the 18th century in the simplest form, Rock Candy, which was made from crystallized sugar. Sugar was only attainable by the wealthy and was considered a luxury since there wasn’t that much sugar around.
Inventions of different machines during the 1800s were used to create more candy other than Rock Candy, and ever since 1979, sugar is being produced more than it can be sold, making it cheaper and more available for a wider range of people.
In 1847 the candy press was invented, which produces multiple shapes and sizes of candy at one time. A revolving steam pan was used by confectioners to help with boiling sugar in 1851. Alongside those inventions were America’s top selling candy, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and M&M’s.
Not everyone craves for the sweetness of Twizzlers or the sourness of Warheads, but a lot of people do. To show your appreciation for the invention of candy, go the norwoodmirror.weebly.com and take your vote on your favorite candy.

Tv Shows Becoming Too Scary?
Zoe Hoover
[email protected]
All around social media, many parents and adults have brought up the fact that hit shows like The Walking Dead, American Horror Story and even Empire shouldn’t be available for kids under 18 years old to watch. However, is it really an issue with the TV shows themselves or the kids watching them?
Many websites who have live feedback such as commonsensemedia.org allow users to comment on certain subjects, shows, and drama. Only a few people in society look to women to finally stand up for themselves which is definitely something that should be more popular in society today.
One user named Heatherxxx, when talking about American Horror Story, said, “This show encourages women’s empowerment! Separating from unhealthy relationships and not relying on a man to support you.”
However, there are some people who think that even though the show appeals to women empowerment, American Horror Story is not fit at all for anyone even in high school regardless of their age.
Another user named Natalie_Grace_1112 says, “Are you either letting or not letting your kid watch this show because of their age or maturity? I wouldn't be so quick to say no to this show. I think if your teen doesnt mind sex, language, rape, gore, and suicide it will be fine.”
Another website that posts good and bad reviews is rottentomatoes.com. There have been many positive and negative reviews on the site, but one from Richard Lawson of Vanity Fair, stood out.
“American Horror Story is cheap, poseur nihilism masquerading as risque tabo flouting. It’s a joke, one heard too many times and has been told far better elsewhere,” says Lawson.
With many people saying certain things that are all over the place about AHS, it’s safe to say that it’s totally okay to watch the show as long as you’re mature and don’t take tragic events too close to heart.
Orangutan saved from illegal captivity
After wandering alone through the forest baby orangutan “Mingky” was captured by hunters. He was then given to a friend who chained up the orangutan in order to use him for family gathering entertainment.
According to Daily Mail there was no prosecution for the man holding Mingky captive as “The police believed that the owner received the orangutan from his friend and thus he was willing to surrender the orangutan.”
Rescuers from the animal welfare group found Mingky a year later and freed him earlier this month. Mingky didn’t responded aggressively to rescuers touching him causing them to have to tranquilize the orangutan.
Mingky now lives in a sanctuary where he is being nursed back to health until he can be released back into the wild.

Human shields
The United Nations has reports that ISIS is using thousands of civilians in and around Mosul as “human shields”. They have forced tens of thousands from their homes in districts around Mosul since a massive operation to drive militants from the city began last week, with other civilians being relocated within the city itself.
ISIS’s cowardly strategy is to attempt to use the presence of civilian hostages to provide certain points, areas or military forces immune from military operations. They have effectively used tens of thousands of women, men and children as human shields. Also the office also has received reports of over 200 people being killed for refusing to comply with ISIS orders or for previously belonging to Iraqi security forces.

economic anxiety
The latest Marketplace-Edison Research survey shows economic anxiety is up to 36 from 30 a year ago (the scale runs 0-100). But 25 percent of Americans “completely distrust the economic data reported by the federal government, including statistics like the unemployment rate, the number of jobs added, and the amount of consumer spending.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, that number soars to 48 percent of Donald Trump supporters compared to just 5 percent of Hillary Clinton supporters. The survey also found that 62 percent of Americans believe the economy is “rigged” in favor of certain groups.
RISE returns to NYC and LA
RISE is back again this year in NYC and LA

orangutan escapes the zoo
An orangutan named Tao escaped the Sedgwick County Zoo on Tuesday from the top of their cage.
Although no one was hurt, a slight panic was still caused in the area. The enclosure is now secured and no reports have been made of any incidents since.

Prediction or Psychic?
Flashback to 1993 in California, a Senior attending Mission Viejo High School, wrote a very interesting quote for the yearbook. It had something to do with the Chicago Cubs and a world series. And to make it even more strange, he gave an exact year, 2016.
Michael Lee stated as a quote, “Chicago Cubs, 2016 World Champions. You heard it here first”.
This got major attention from social media after the Cubs beat the Dodgers in the NLCS championship. And now they are on the verge of their first World Series championships in 71 years.
People also began to speculate whether this is photoshopped or not and Lee proves its real by videotaping him flipping through the yearbook.
It’s quite the mystery on how or why his brain told him to say this exact year, but I guess we’ll never know.

Virtual reality
Over the past couple decades technology has improved. With new company’s coming out with new items every year. For example Apple is on their seventh Iphone when the sixth one just came last year, maybe even less than a year.
Even video games have improved. The most recent improvement would be Virtual Reality. Virtual Reality is a three-dimensional, computer generated environment which can be explored and interacted with by a person.
Virtual Reality basically tricks your brain into thinking you are in a 3D world when you actually aren’t. VR does this is with the stereoscopic display. It displays two slightly different angles of the scene to each eye, simulating depth.
Virtual Reality sounds pretty cool, are you willing to give Virtual Reality a try?

One Tough Goalie
A Georgia teen was recently concussed at his soccer game after receiving a kick to the head trying to stop a ball from entering his team's goal.
Reuben Nsemoh, 16, was then airlifted to Atlanta Medical where he was in a coma for the next three days. This was Nsemoh's third concussion, but not only were his parents scared of what was going on at the time, they were even more shocked when he awoke talking fluent Spanish, a language he does not speak. Days later it had began to fade and his english returned.
Looking back now, Nsemoh told WSB Radio that he may have subconsciously recalled fluent Spanish conversations he overheard from his friends and brother. Nsemoh plans on returning back to the field and wearing a helmet any time he steps on the playing surface.

HIT HALLOWEEN COSTUMES OF 2016
Savanna Davidson
[email protected]
Halloween is right around the corner and some of the new “it” costumes this year are a little more extravagant and spooky than ever before. The clown craze that has taken over our country probably means there will not be many people dressed as clowns this year.
According to People.com, In partnership with Google, they shared the year’s top 15 most-searched-for Halloween costumes; which can either serve as inspiration or as a warning for those who are apt to create totally unique, unheard-of ensembles
Not surprisingly, thanks to the buzz factor surrounding this year’s Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn and the Joker take the top spots, with “Superhero” and “Pirate” following close behind. The rest of the searches are also fairly par for the course, considering die hard fans of Pokémon are ranking in the tops this year.
Ranking in fifth place is Wonder Woman, with a witch in sixth. If you are looking for a simple, classic costume, the witch is definitely the way to go. Number seven is Batman, following with Star Wars, and very surprisingly, even though the clown scare of the year, the clown was ranked number 9 in most searched halloween costumes.
If you are looking for a more scary, mysterious look this year, Dinosaur is ranked tenth place, following with Mermaid, Pikachu, and Zombie in thirteenth place. These costumes while they are not taking it too far, they will turn some heads on Halloween night.
Next on our list is Minnie Mouse, this costume is cute, and not just for younger kids. In the last few years Minnie Mouse has been worn more by middle schoolers than any other age group. Last on our list is Deadpool, while the movie was a big craze when it came out, it has died down due to Suicide Squad. If you're looking for something popular, but not wanting something everyone will be wearing, deadpool is the way to go.

U-boat SUNK by a 'sea monster'
It has been reported that a sea monster took down a World War I German submarine in the UK. The 100-year-old wrecked submarine shown on incredible sonar images looked to be mostly intact. According to CNN News the boat was cursing the surface of the water trying to recharge its batteries when a“Sea Monster” rose out of the sea.
"According to the old tale, the U-boat commander -- Capt. Gunther Krech -- said the submarine had been cruising on the surface of the water to recharge its batteries when a "strange beast" rose from the sea with "large eyes, set in a horny sort of skull."

Calling any and all Star Wars fans! The new Star Wars movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, comes out on December 16, 2016 and fans all over the world have been questioning a new villain that has appeared in the teaser trailers and also a fan favorite, Darth Vader, appears as well! Any Star Wars fan knows the many family conflicts that occur in the movies, but these new theories, bring the complication of the Skywalkers to a whole new level.
The trailers show a girl, Jyn Erso, a rebel who finds out her father has sent a message of an empire that is creating a huge weapon that could possibly kill everyone and destroy everything. If the weapon is completed, everyone will perish. The weapon appears to be the death star, the main weapon of destruction used in the earlier episodes of Star Wars.
Darth Vader, being first seen in the end of Episode 3, is a huge golden nugget in the Star Wars world. Vader, a sith lord, dies in Episode 6, so us fans can infer that Rogue One, happens before his death, and even before his children, Luke and Leia, find each other. Luke and Leia meet in Episode 4, A New Hope. Since the twins don’t know that they are twins, they somewhat have a little romance and once realizing they’re siblings, are disgusted with each other. After this, Han Solo and Leia get hitched, have a child named Ben Ren, who later turns into the main villain in Episode 7, The Force Awakens as Kylo Ren, and fans have so many questions. One being “So, we know what happened with Leia and Han, what happened with Luke?”
Conspiracies have been soaring as fans put pieces together. One being that Rey, the protagonist in The Force Awakens, is the daughter of Luke. Also, Jyn Erso, is the so-called “baby momma” of Luke, making Rey the child of Luke and Jyn. Being a skywalker, Luke and Anakin, now known as Darth Vader, have incredible strength, which shows that Rey, who also appears to have a connection with great power, also known as the Force, could be a descendent of Luke. Kylo, who is also Vader’s grandson, receives a great guidance in the force and becomes extremely powerful.
Another crazy theory, created by over 100 different youtubers, says that Kylo Ren and Rey are siblings, meaning that Han Solo and Princess Leia, either gave Rey up for adoption, or thought her power with the force, was too powerful for them to control. If this is true, why is Rey’s first connection with Luke Skywalker so powerful? Movie-goers stopped in their tracks and most likely fainted when Luke appeared at the ending of The Force Awakens.
So many more questions are being asked, and conspiracies are rising. It would be far, far too difficult to put into text. However, if you’re a fan of Star Wars, you should definitely check out some trailers for Rogue One on YouTube. Many are available and one of them is bound to spark your interest!

Connecticut plane crash
A small plane crashed in East Hartford, Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon killing one of the two people on board at the time. The incident is now being questioned as “The result of an intentional act” according to abc NEWS.
On board were two men, a student pilot and a flight instructor named Arian Prevalla who works for the Hartford Jet Center. The student was pronounced dead on scene while the flight instructor is currently in critical condition.
As of now it is unclear who had control of the plane at the time of the crash. It is said that the plane hit a utility pole, crashed into the road and then caught fire causing Prevalla to need treatment for burns.
As a result of this crash a preliminary investigation is being conducted by the National Transport Safety Board (NTSB).
They say “If there is any reason to believe that a criminal investigation has occurred.” then they will be assisted by the FBI to figure out more until they know the full story.

Only You Can Prevent the Flu

There are three common illnesses that doctors all around advise you to watch out for as we kick off the fall season.
1. Seasonal flu: According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, fall's kickoff sparks flu season, beginning in the autumn months and stretching into as late as May. The flu typically peaks in January and February during the brunt of winter. A respiratory illness, the flu spreads from person to person, mostly through coughs, sneezes and even general talking. It is possible to contract the flu by touching a surface infected with the flu virus then transmitting it to your mouth, nose or eyes.
2. Common Cold: Common colds can affect anyone at any time of the year, but peak cold activity hits during the winter and rainy months. An upper respiratory infection, colds are spread similarly to the flu. Colds usually bring nasal congestion, scratchy throats and sneezing along with other symptoms depending on the strain.
3. Acute Ear Infections: Ear infections, especially in children, are more likely to occur in winter than any other season. Changes in climate, especially as colder air takes hold, will enhance the threat of an acute ear infection. It’s also said that ear infections are the number one reason parents take their children to the doctor. Symptoms of general ear pain and even nausea can be the most disruptive symptoms. Oils or vinegars should do the trick.

Toddlers and Tickets
On Thursday October 13th in Washington D.C., news came up about a two year-old, getting a ticket. The Department of Public Works issued little Harper westover with a 75$ fine. Her mom, attorney Theresa Westover, also received a citation. A solid waste inspector came and told her a city worker had found unopened envelopes with her name and Harper's name in an alley. Apparently the father was outraged and started posting about it online. They refused to drop the charges. Though the day Theresa sat down to do a TV interview, a Public Works official stopped by the family's home to drop the citations.
robbed during paris fashion week

During Paris Fashion Week Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint. She was tied up, gagged, and placed in the bathroom while five armed men stole $10 million worth of jewelry. They even stole her two iPhones.
The five robbers stole her new upgraded engagement ring that her husband Kanye West got her. The new ring had Adidas engraved on the back. Kardashian pleaded for her life because she thought they might kill, rape her, or even both. She flew out of Paris the next morning to meet up with her husband in New York City.
Kanye was performing during a concert when he made the announcement. He rescheduled two dates of his tour to be with his wife during this frightened time.
She just now got back on Twitter, she didn’t tweet anything she just unfollowed 15 users. She hasn’t made any other appearance on social media. They think she got robbed because she was flaunting her jewelry on Snapchat and Instagram.
Her young sister Khloe Kardashian is the first to open up about the situation on the show Ellen.
“She is still not doing well”, said Khloe Kardashian.
The Kardashian/Jenner family think its a wake up call. They need to take adjustments on what they post on the internet.

As many of you know hurricane Matthew has swept over Florida leaving many people dealing with damages. As a result of this, a federal judge decided to extend voting time.
During a hearing, U.S. District Judge Mark Walker extended the deadline for Florida voting an extra six days. The new deadline will now be on Oct. 18.

Things to do besides trick-or-treat
Once you get to highschool trick or treating gets kind of boring. Most of the time it gets frowned upon because 17 year olds begging for candy isn’t really a part of the definition cute.
- Here’s some alternatives that you can do:
-Movie Night- Host a movie night at your house and make them all scary.
-Hand out candy- You can’t beg for candy but you can make other kids happy by giving candy.
-Bonfire- Host a bonfire and tell scary stories in the dark.
-Decorate pumpkins- Decorating pumpkins or other things can be fun, family or friend time.
So what will you be doing this halloween?
Matthew visits the states

Recently, there has been a big causes for concern for those living in the Caribbean as well as Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Hurricane Matthew, a level four storm has formed. This is a big problem for the city of Haiti, who has still not fully recovered from a storm way back in 2010. The four American states have already put out into a state of emergency. Thousands of people have gone out, refilling propane tanks and buying all the supplies they’ll need to get through the storm. The first drops of rain are supposed to fall today, Oct. 6, 2016, around 2 p.m. Many residents have already packed their things and set out to leave the state, cars bumper to bumper at the toll booths. As of right now the storm isn’t thought to be coming to Ohio, but the state might receive the leftovers, similar to what happened after the last big storm. Hopefully there won’t be extensive amounts of damage done by the storm, and the people of the states will be able to bounce right back into the swing of things. After all, the citizens of the United States always seem to get back up when they’re knocked down.

When it comes to the 2016 Presidential Election, there are two candidates who are totally different people. Donald Trump, a more moderate Republican, and Hillary Clinton, a democrat, are in their final month of campaigning and the polls are becoming more and more accurate.
Both candidates have very different views on problems that the U.S. has, and both Trump and Clinton have very different ways to fix those problems.
With Clinton being a democrat, she believes our country needs a lot less war and a weaker militia, as well as pro-choice, a stronger government to support education, and to get rid of guns entirely. Clinton has stated, “As President, I’ll take on the gun lobby and fight off commonsense reforms to keep guns away from terrorists, domestic abusers, and other violent criminals-including comprehensive background checks and closing loopholes that allow guns to fall into the wrong hands.”
On the opposing side, Trump supports a strong, supportive militia, a strong education without a strong government, and a pro-life outlook to completely get rid of planned parenthood and to protect the rights of life. Trump says, “I am opposed to abortion except for rape, incest, and life of the mother. I oppose the use of government funds to pay for abortions.”
Trump also talks about our country’s immigration problem. “Build a border wall and end sanctuary cities. Send criminal aliens home. Welcome those who embrace our way of life, but keep out immigrants and refugees who don’t through rigorous vetting.” Says Trump.
However, Clinton disagrees. We need comprehensive immigration reform with a path to full and equal citizenship. If Congress won’t act, I’ll defend president Obama’s executive actions-and I’ll go even further to keep families together.”
Both candidates have different views on our economic, educational, abortion, immigration and more. It’s up to the power of the people, old and young, to vote for who they see best fits office.
Just because most of Norwood High School is under the age of 18, doesn’t mean your opinion isn’t important. You can do so many things other than voting to show your support to the candidates. You can talk to your parents and friends, put a sign in your front yard, watch a debate, give out pamphlets and papers with information about who you support, or even participate more in government class. The possibilities are endless, so just because you aren’t legal to vote, you can definitely still use your voice.

Help those heroin users
A photo on Facebook has been shared many times of a CPD officer treating a young girl to a McDonald’s Happy Meal a little after treating her mother from a heroin overdose. This kind of story hasn’t been an uncommon one.
Statistics show in 2014, 900,000 adults and young adults have used heroin in that past year and 586,000 of those people end up suffering from a heroin use disorder. Thinking that is bad, 50,000 people in that same year overdosed on the drug.
Following cocaine and marijuana, heroin is the third most frequent drug-related emergency department visits. The increase of heroin usage is due to the easy access and the low cost.
The mother of that young girl is lucky to have survived, but not many do. If you know anyone addicted to this deadly drug, reassure them of your love for them and if it’s a severe addiction, try seeking Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) for assistance.

reading and the case of clowns
Reading Schools are closed today seeing as threats have been sent to the school from people calling themselves “Killer clowns”.
All over the country people have claimed to spot clowns in their cities. Some say they’re killers and others say they are simply just kids messing around. Either way the bottom line is that they need to be stopped.
In Reading overnight, a woman was attacked by a male dressed as a clown. She claims that during her attack, the man threatened the students.
The school says they “take all threats to the safety of their students seriously.”
As a result of this they decided to shut the school down for the day to provide as much safety as possible for their students.
Although class was called off, the school says they have worked closely with the Reading Police Department so their homecoming parade and football game will continue as planned.

Throughout this past year Americans have been in constant debate over the next president of the United States. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton our the canadites for this years election.
The two parties Republicans and Democrats have been never really been on the same side completely. There have been in the past were elections have been completely one-sided. For example, in 1984 Ronald Reagan completely controlled the country during his campaign. That wasn’t the first time the country was completely towards one canadite, in 1932 the country went towards Roosevelt.
So far in this election our country is split in the middle for Trump, and the other for Clinton. We have never seen an election like this before, during this campaign people have been jumped, and attacked for being a democrate, and have been attacked for being a republican.
Here in about a month or so America will have a new president.

3 biological parents?
You may have never heard of spindle nuclear transfer, but recently in Mexico it seems it's a big controversial topic.
Scientists have developed a way to create a baby boy using sperm from a male, an egg from a woman and DNA from another woman. As you could think many people have raised their opinions about this saying that it's “unethical”.
The unusual procedure was an attempt to avoid Leigh syndrome, a severe neurological condition.
As of right now the baby boy is 6 months old now and so far he’s doing good. But healthy babies can still get diseases, so constant monitoring is being done.

Clinton or trump?
By. Savanah Howard

The first presidential debate gave viewers all around the world the chance to see Clinton and Trump show what they really think about the problems in the U.S.
During a 90 minute exchange between the two candidates, they each talked about crucial problems such as Iraq wars, nuclear weapons, and the cost of free trade.
Now, the real question is who won? Well according to S.E. Cupp, a columnist at the New York Daily News, Trump won.
She says while Clinton may have “pointed out that his cavalier attitude toward nuclear weapons was dangerous, time and again, she punted at opportunities to point out how ill-informed and unprepared Trump is. Instead, she preferred to argue his vague platform on its merits. For her, this wasn't damaging, and it didn't move the needle in her favor.”
On the contrary, Tara Setmayer, a CNN political commentator, says Clinton won.
She states that Trump “ whiffed badly when confronted about his failure to release his taxes and struck out on the issues of race, birtherism and foreign policy. It was, frankly, surprising how easily Trump took Hillary's bait.”
So, who do you think won? Trump, who took Clinton’s bait, or Clinton, who didn’t take the time to talk about how unprepared Trump was?

Panic in syria
The war in Syria has been going on for five years, and taken the lives of more than a quarter of a million innocent people. This war has been between the people of Syria who support the president, Bashar al Assad, and a group known as the rebels who don not like Bashar, nor want him to be in power.
According to the BBC, It all started because people decided to protest after 15 schoolchildren were arrested, and reportedly tortured, for making graffiti on a wall that was anti-government. The protests were peaceful to begin with, as the people called for the release of the children.
The government responded to these peaceful protests very furiously. On march 18, 2011, the army opened fire on protesters killing four people. The next day at one of the victims funerals, they killed an innocent mourner.
This caused panic and widespread violence. In July 2012, the International Red Cross said the violence in Syria had become so widespread that it was in a state of civil war.

North korea Nuclear Tests
The testing of nuclear bombs has been banned since 1996 when the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty was signed by members of the United Nations(UN). Although most countries follow these regulations, North Korea doesn’t.
In the last 10 years North Korea has conducted 5 illegal nuclear tests. 2 of these test were done in January and September of 2016. According to CNBC, this nuclear test has caused more worries for ex-diplomats.
At the UN general assembly, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe claimed North Korea had fired many ballistic missiles of the coast of their economic zone.
Ex-diplomats fear the nuclear test will keep North Korea and the rest of the world separated for years to come, according to CNBC.

Mom's Brutally Honest Tardy Note for Teen Goes Viral
Mom Nicole Poppic made a facebook post that has gone viral and has been shared 33k times. This post was made September 6, near Clarksburg, CA from a mother to the school her daughter attends. The note briefly described to whomever it may concern the reason why her daughter was late that morning of the 6th. The note was a comedically written to embarrass her child for pure entertainment to her friends and obviously thousands of others on facebook, but mainly to teach her a lesson.
Poppic decided to write quite the detailed tardy note for her 14-year-old daughter, Cara, when the teen wouldn't get out of bed and mouthed off earlier this month. "Adolescents across our great nation are afflicted and there is no known cure," Poppic wrote in a note that quickly went viral on Facebook, racking up 33,000 shares and more than 7,000 likes.
But things only seemed to get worse on the drive to school. When Cara snuck on her headphones to dodge the inevitable discussion about thinking of people other than herself, her mother threw the phone out the window. (she later retrieved the phone and gave it back) Then, when Cara refused to take the note to her school's attendance office, Poppic marched into the office with her daughter, where Cara was given a tardy slip. The daughter seems to have learned her lesson and began laughing it off several weeks after.
